Start the summer with fairs, food and live music this weekend in Lafayette

Time to fire up those grills, whip out the sandals and don’t forget the bug spray because summer is here! Kids are out of school and with Memorial Day on the horizon everyone is looking for fun ways to spend time with family. From fairs to food trucks, live music and more, here are four events happening in Acadiana this weekend.

Cajun Heartland State Fair May 26- June 5

Are you ready to hop on some rides and eat funnel cake? The beloved Cajun Heartland State Fair returns to the Cajundome grounds Thursday. This eleven day-long event is complete with food, music, games and fun for both young and old. Tickets are currently on sale through Ticketmaster.com. Family passes include four admission tickets and all day ride wristbands. Tickets will also be sold on the grounds. Admission is $5 for everyone over five years old. All day ride wristbands are $30. Food Truck Friday at Moncus Park

Calling all foodies! If you have been looking to try some new local cuisine or switch up your normal lunch time fare, stop by Moncus Park this Friday. This week’s restaurants include: Nina Creole, G&G Quality Catering, AwwShucks, Big Belly Sandwiches and KOK Wings and Things. Food Truck Friday starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

Local Palooza May 28- 29

Local Palooza will launch its second annual celebration in Downtown Lafayette Saturday. The event will include performances by Clay Cormier & The Highway Boys, Lil’ Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers, Jeffrey Broussard & The Creole Cowboys, Lost Bayou Ramblers and many more. The family event is free to attend and will have kids’ activities, fun jumps, food trucks, snow cones, an art market and fun for everyone. official kick off at 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and will end around 8 p.m.

Put on your dancing shoes for this Zyedco show. Jeremy Fruge and The Zydeco HotBoyz are performing at KOK Wings on E University Avenue Sunday at 3 p.m. This is a 21 years old—— and up event.
